I digress, through the late 2000's they held a strong presence. But then something changed in the early 2010's. No longer could I buy direct. There was a new rep, followed by a new unfamiliar rep. The odd thing, is about this time Dean Markley supposedly returned as the CEO, perhaps it was too late. 

After several years of unknowns, and long-standing backorders, it became clear there was no Dean Markley "home", rather a succession of a few temporary offices moving the last of the products. Fast forward to about 2020 where I was contacted by another new rep, "now shipping Dean Markley... min purchase of $10K, all sales final." Um, what? Did you just say "in 10 days" or "of 10 K"?!

That was the Batman signal in the sky. A short moment of rejoice quickly turned sour, realizing they were liquidating.

Shortly after, the Dean Markley website became stagnant. Couldn't buy strings anymore. That was the nail in the coffin. Month after month a new sku "sold out", never to return. 

3. What’s Next for Dean Markley?

As we look towards the future, Dean Markley Strings will become a point of conversation including the phrase "remember when...?".

Being the "iconic guitar product company since 1972" they won't fade too quickly. If you have a Dean Markley story to tell, please share it with someone, they might have their own!
